Testing out ScribeFire
ScribeFire is a Firefox Extension that allows you to post to your blog while you surf the internet. ScribeFire uses XML-RPC to post any number of different blog platforms. This post is actually my first test in posting with ScribeFire.
There are several advantages to products like ScribeFire; most notably, being able to post to your blog without even logging into it. The distinct advantage of ScirbeFire is that it can allow someone who doesn't have a dual monitor setup to post while looking at source materials, or even helping you add helpful links in your posts by keeping the editing space open while you surf the Internet.
The downside to an XML-RPC client like ScribeFire is that some of the neat features and addons that you have installed on your blog can't be used through something like this. Also, problems can arise from adding the post to the correct category or whatever. Also, you can't upload a picture file directly though something like this, you will need to already have it posted on your website ahead of time. It's generally considered bad practice to link to someone else's image on there server since it uses their bandwidth, also it's just in bad taste.
These problems can be overcome by simply using ScribeFire to post to your blog as a draft. Then you can go in and make sure everything is nice and neat before you publish. This is especially helpful in those moments where you think "I'm gonna blog about this." Then inevitably procrastination totally kills the urge to post your bloggerific idea.
